Week Nine Reflection: Disciple Leadership

This week’s study on Disciple Leadership really opened my eyes to what it means to lead with purpose, integrity, and vision. The videos and readings, especially those by Frank Levinson, Carly Fiorina, and Jim Ritchie, really hit home for me. They provided some great insights into leadership that go way beyond just managing people.

Frank Levinson’s take on ethics and morality was a big eye-opener. I realized how vital it is to hire and work with people who are not just skilled but genuinely kind and ethical. It reminded me that leadership isn't just about pushing for results; it’s also about creating a culture of care and respect. Ethical behavior is crucial because it builds trust and teamwork within small groups, which ultimately leads to the bigger success of the organization.

Carly Fiorina’s points on capability, collaboration, and character really resonated. She emphasized that being a leader isn’t just about having the right skills and experience, it’s also about having the guts to ask tough questions and really listen to your customers and team members. Her focus on humility and being open to feedback is key for growth. I loved her take on customer satisfaction as a key indicator, stressing that leaders need to be adaptable and keep learning to stay relevant.

Jim Ritchie’s lesson on “Good to Great” was super inspiring, especially the idea of the Level 5 leader who combines humility with a strong drive. It taught me that real leadership isn’t about ego; it’s about being passionate and disciplined while serving a bigger mission. The analogy of getting the right people on the bus before figuring out where to go is both practical and powerful, success really comes from building a committed, aligned team. Plus, the Venn diagram he shared about having a great product, believing in your potential, and having passion really drove home how greatness requires a balanced approach.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to see how I can apply these leadership principles to real-life challenges and blend them into my personal and professional journey. I want to experience how being a leader who uplifts others can truly change not just organizations, but whole communities. Overall, this week has inspired me to reflect on my own leadership path, step out of my comfort zone, and stay committed to continuous learning, integrity, and service.
