Week Six Refelction: So You Want to be an Entrepreneur
This week’s study on entrepreneurship, along with the readings and videos, really opened my eyes to what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. One big takeaway for me was that being an entrepreneur isn’t just a job, it’s more like a part of who you are. Like Wences Casares said, it’s something you’re “stuck with,” not just a decision you make. This helped me see that to be truly entrepreneurial, you need passion, persistence, and a commitment that goes way beyond just business goals.
Another important point came from Steve Blank’s honest talk about juggling the craziness of startups with family life. I was really struck by how he emphasized the need to set clear boundaries, like having family dinners and keeping weekends free, so you can maintain those important relationships, even when you’re super busy with your entrepreneurial ventures. It showed me how crucial it is to manage time intentionally and prioritize personal connections alongside professional ambitions.
Jan Newman’s perspective on staying loyal to God and family really hit home, too. She reminded us that no matter how driven we get to build our careers or businesses, we should never compromise on our spiritual and family commitments. Her words about how “the greatest legacy is your family and your service in the Kingdom of God” were especially impactful. It made me think about how to keep my integrity and focus on what truly matters, even while chasing success.
Overall, these materials have helped me see entrepreneurship as more of a lifestyle than just a business thing. I’m looking forward to picking up practical strategies for balancing these different demands, leveling up my entrepreneurial skills, and figuring out how to create lasting value while keeping strong personal and spiritual foundations. I also want to explore how I can apply entrepreneurial principles not just in business but in everyday life challenges.
